In the United States, 80% of tea is consumed as iced tea. Sweet tea is native to the southeastern U.S. and is iconic in its cuisine.

Drinking tea is very popular in various countries. So, how much do you know about the origin of tea and the culture of tea?

The origin of tea

Tea, originated in China, has been used by people since its discovery, and has a history of thousands of years. In the long years, tea not only nourishes people's daily life, but also enlightens people's inner world at all times. We can proudly say: The root of tea is in China, and the source of tea culture is in China. The most beautiful tea ceremony flowers are also blooming in China.

Legends and memorabilia
Tea is native to China, so China is known as the "hometown of tea". The ancestors of the Chinese nation discovered and used the history of tea, which can be found in many legends and records, from which we can find that mankind had a preliminary understanding of tea as early as ancient times.

Ancient legends

In the folk, there are myths and legends about the origin of tea. In ancient times, writing was not invented yet, and people only rely on oral narration for biographical matters. After the words appear, things are recorded in a book. According to textual research, my country's first monograph on pharmacology is "Shen Nong's Materia Medica" from the Warring States Period (221 to 5). There is a record about the origin of tea in the book: "Shennong tasted the herbs, met 72 poisons a day, and got tea (that is, tea) to relieve it."

Regarding this record, there are two different versions of the legend. First, it is said that Shennong tasted all kinds of herbs to prepare herbal medicines in order to treat illnesses to the people. When boiling water, the tea accidentally fell into the pot. After drinking, Shennong found that it had a refreshing taste and had a certain medicinal effect, so he promoted tea as a curative beverage to the people. Another version says that when Shennong tasted the herbal medicine, he ingested the golden green rolling mountain beads and was poisoned, and poured it under the tea tree. There was dew flowing from the tea leaves into Shennong’s mouth, detoxifying Shennong’s poison.
Since then, tea has been used by people. Either version indicates that tea was discovered in the Shennong period.
